Content drives searches

Posted by: admin   in SEO, Thought of the Day

There is a term that is used in search engine management called “Evergreen content” What this means is content that is not topical, such who won Monday Night Football, but more along the lines of “How to find George Lindemann Sr.” This and other topics that have no time of expiration and are very specific in their search terms. If you are trying to get noticed and traffic to your site, then you need to be specific in your keywords, and use through out your blog or site.

Linking to high quality content is also very helpful when deploying your search engine campaign. And if you can get those sites to link back to you your are farther ahead than your competition. Don’t rely on a simple few keywords in your description in hopes to achieve top placement in the search engines. Design your content and messaging around your top 3 or 4 key phrases and then use those in all your online branding.

Search Engine Optimization Tips - Part One
By Niall Roche

Anybody who has their own website or is involved in business online understands the importance of SEO or search engine optimization. Higher rankings equal more traffic. More traffic equals more potential sales. Simple, eh? Or is it?

The problem here is that most people think search engine optimization is like magic and that only search engine “gurus” have all the answers.

Fortunately, for you, this is far from true. In fact search engine optimization is relatively easy. What stops most people from ranking well in the search engines is misinformation and the promise of quick fixes. Every week there’s a new tool or ebook that promises to solve all your search engine woes. There are no quick fixes folks. Accept that as a truth and move forward.

What follows in the next three articles is a 10 step program for improving your online presence and search engine rankings. Enjoy!

Keywords
Keywords should be the first step in your search engine optimization campaign. People put keywords or phrases into search engines looking for information. The search engines then check their index for pages that contain these keywords. Unless your pages contain keywords relevant to your business or service then do not expect search engines to rank you well. It’s that simple.

For example if you have a website about dating then you’ll find it very difficult to rank well for the keyword “dating” because so many other sites are competing for it. However if you were to target a specific area like gay and lesbian dating then you’re dealing with a smaller, more targeted market. You could even regionalize it by targetting gay and lesbian dating in Toronto. See where we’re going with this?

So what keywords tools are available to you? Describing each of them goes beyond the scope of this article so please refer to our site for more information on this topic.

Content
Make this your motto - Provide Useful Content. DO NOT provide keyword stuffed, spammy, automatically generated pages. Write something useful for your visitors based on keywords which are relevant to your business or service.

Ask yourself one question - do you want your website to last? Yes? Great then provide content that’s actually useful to your visitors. Not only should you provide the initial content but keep adding content to your site. A page a week, a page a month it doesn’t matter. Give your visitors a reason to come back to your website.

You can’t write? Yes you can! Most people just think they can’t write. Most of us send emails every day to friends, colleagues and loved ones. If you can compose an email like that then you’re perfectly capable of writing 200 - 300 words of text for a page of content. The mere thought of writing a page of website content can fill people with terror but if you need help on this please refer to our website for a list of resources.

Keyword Density
This is how often your keyword is used on the the page. For example if you have 100 words of text for toronto on a single page and you mention your keyword 5 times then your keyword density is 5%.

So what’s the ideal keyword density? Do yourself a favour and don’t focus on keyword density at all. The forums are full of “experts” with theories on the perfect keyword density percentage. Here’s a wake up call - there is no perfect keyword density.

Mention your keyword towards the top of your page within the body text, in the page title and in the Meta Description tag. Apart from that only ever use the keyword or keywords within the page itself as is contextually appropriate. Forcing a keyword into a page over and over again is going to produce a webpage that’s difficult to read and sounds silly.

Domain Name
You have two choices when choosing a domain name. You can use a branded name that doesn’t relate to your business e.g. Amazon.com have built a hugely successful brand name as an online retailer using the name of a South American river for their company. It just works for some reason.

Your other choice is to use a keyword rich domain name. What this means is that if your website is about baby clothes you’d use a domain name like www.baby-clothes-guide.com. Should you really use hyphens to separate the keywords in the domain? The simple answer is yes because a search engine can read each individual keyword in the domain.

If you were to use www.babyclothesguide.com the major search engines can only read the first word from it which is “baby”. Therefore it has no idea that the domain is specifically about baby clothes (targetted) and not just about baby (untargetted).

Improving your sites link popularity

   Posted by: admin   in SEO

What is on your Mind? How many years did you register your domain name for?
If it was only one then Google could hold that against you. Did you know that your term of renewal can affect how your page ranking is determined? This is only one of the key component when determing your page rank. Also, increasing your link popularity will help in a huge way in how Google and other view your site. Below are few things that go in to the ranking and search engine placement of your sites.
• Web page rankings are recorded and monitored for changes.

• The traffic to a web page is recorded and monitored over time.

• Sites can be ranked seasonally. A ski site may rank higher in the winter than in the summer. Google can monitor and rank pages by recording CTR changes by season.

• Bookmarks and favorites could be monitored for changes, deletions or additions.

• User behavior in general could be monitored. Heathersych.com has more on how to improve your rankings and links.

Creating valuable links

Posted by: admin   in SEO, Thought of the Day

There are numerous websites, books, and eBooks dedicated to the subject of how to increase link popularity. The basic way to do this is to find other sites similar to yours and send a request to the owner to exchange links. This is very time consuming, and may take a lot of no’s to get one yes. Another option is look at link exchange services, which some are free. These can be part of your overall search optimization plan, but should not be your only avenue. There are reports that Google may frown upon and actually penalize your site if there are enough non- related links.

Considering the many options that are available the two best we have found are getting others to write about your website or service, or creating a blog about your website and products yourself. Search engines love blog type content as long as it is unique and updated regularly. Blogitive is one such site that allows advertisers to find bloggers to write about their services or products. In this growing demand for consumer generated media, there is definitely a rise in these types of offerings.  It allows the advertiser to have keyword rich article written about them and helping to create content and links that will ultimately help them in their goal to be a the top of search results.

Keywords and links

   Posted by: admin   in SEO

By Matthew Rotterman

More on this topic can be found at our site WebDesignMind.com

I recently found out that a friend of mine has an online business that I was not aware of. She said that she sells beads and jewelry accessories. She sent me the link to her site and I gave it a cursory glance. I asked her how business was and she told me that business is ok, but that she would like to have more customers. I then asked her about her marketing and what all it consists of. She told me that she does not bother with it because her business is part of a franchise. I recommended to her that she use some keyword rich articles to improve her search engine results and she told me that she does not want to spend the money on it and that “business will pick up soon”. She had no strategic plan of how her business would “pick up” though. Finding link directories you can check out GY8.net
This is an all too common conversation I have with people when talking to them about search engine optimization through the use of keyword articles. Many of the people I talk to do not really know what search engine optimization is, much less what keyword articles are. Too often I see people who turn to the Internet as a way to make money but do not understand how to go from making a little money to having a booming business. Internet businesses are often times rather easy to operate and generate a good return on investment, but what if those returns on investment could double? Triple? More?

Consider this, when I did a search for “jewelry accessories” on Google there are 23,500,000 results listed at the time of this article writing. After looking at about three pages I stopped looking to see if her website was listed. This is typical for people who do searches for keywords like jewelry accessories. If they do not find what they are looking for in the first two or three pages they will generally stop looking and try other keyword combinations. Most people are not going to sift through 235 sites, much less 23,500,000 listings. The more you sift through the sites the less likely they are to be good matches to what you were looking for anyway.

Keyword articles could improve her search engine results a great deal. Keyword articles most often come up when someone types in “jewelry accessories” and other relevant keyword combinations. Creating articles that provide information, as well as adhere to a keyword density formula, is a major component as to how your website will get ranked higher in the search engine results.

Most often, it does take some time for Google and Yahoo to crawl the keyword articles on your website. You will not see an instant ranking increase the day you post these articles on your website. The major search engine companies prefer to find a website by way of a “natural” search. This is why inbound links to your site are also important. You can set the Revisit meta tag on your sitemap page to better represent the frequency by which you add new content to your site. Try to be accurate with this setting — if you try to cheat the system, the search engine robots will eventually stop coming.

Sites that are discovered by the search engine robots through a natural search — links from another website — will be crawled far sooner than the site whose webmaster uses the Add URL link at the search engine’s main website.

My friend did not realize the potential increase keyword-rich articles could have on her business and did not want to invest the money into developing this content. She was more concerned with the “now” and not the future returns that she could get from investing now in strategic marketing activities. It does cost some money to have keyword densities developed as well as having the articles written. It is also important to know what keywords to use. Keyword combinations can easily be researched on the Internet by using sites such as http://www.wordtracker.com. Once all of this is determined, the articles can be written and then posted to the website. There are many companies, such as http://www.keywordtext.com, that offer these types of services for a reasonable price.

Is the cost of doing this type of marketing worthwhile? Well that is up to the website owner to decide. If the website owner wants to see strong gains in the amount of hits his or her website is getting, then yes. The more people who visit your website, the more likely you are to sell your product or service. You may have a wonderful website and sell a great product or service, but if no one can find it, you are not meeting your potential.

How do you find products or services that you need? Do you look on the Internet? The phone book? Newspapers? Whatever method you choose to do your own shopping, you know that advertising and marketing produces results. You do not purchase goods and services from companies you cannot find. Do yourself and your business a favor and get some keyword articles written, so that you can watch your website traffic and sales soar.
