A zip file is used very often these days as people send photos and videos across the internet. Even as broadband has grown, their is still a large amount of people on dial up and if you send them files larger than 1-2 mb it can freeze up their internet connection as well their email. Compressed files are valuable in the electronic world because they cut your download time drastically, and they make it possible to download just one file rather than the full set of files.
