In an attempt to use the new technology of Blu-Ray DVDs, Universal Studios and Progressive Direct Insurance are trying something new. In the release of ” The Fast and the Furious : Tokyo Drift” consumers will now be able to activate a calculator that will show in the right hand corner of the movie the actual cost of the damage that is happening to the cars. We have all wondered how much does it cost to total a Ferrari, well now we can see. This will be an attempt at brand and product placement in a new release that consumers can have turn on or off.
The calculator is labeled “Progressive Direct: Insurance Damage Estimates.” It is provides a new tool for companies to have product recognition along with product placement. Since the new Blu-ray discs will carry approx. six times the amount of data as regular DVDs this will afford studios and advertisers a chance to enhance the users experience while providing a brand experience. The question will be how many consumers will use and activate the extra features on the discs. DVDs now have those options of added footage, music videos and more with movie releases and it is not know the use of these features. With the consumer so fragmented these days, companies need to find innovative ways to remind or introduce services that don’t look like ads. The Madden curse lives on as Shaun Alexander was featured on the cover and was sidelined by a fractured foot for most of the season. The Seahawks will make the playoffs, and will most likely face the Dallas Cowboys in the first round of the playoffs. I took Alexander in the first round of our fantasy football league and passed on Ladanian Tomlison. Of course the guy has the best year of any running back. Oh, well there is always next year.

HP came up big for the latest Postie patrol. In an effort to reward their members PayPerPost was able to team up with HP, and give away cash and cool HP gear.My favorite part of the video is when Ted tore off his sweat pants and then performed his famous “Catfeesh” impression on a bus stop glass insert. The love that Ted and PayPerPost show their customers, both advertisers and bloggers, is nothing I have seen from an internet based company.

I would love to have the postie patrol visit my family and I here in Pennsylvania. In a recent review of a blog on Internet Business, written by Chris Sandberg, I found it very informative and topical. He had an interesting posting about the universe of Digg, and his unfortunate happenings. I have always felt that there are just a few top tier people on Digg that do control the way a post either rises or crashes to earth. This year matchup between Ohio State and Florida is sure to be a great game. The controversy over who should actually be in the championship game will always be debated. Since Michigans only lost was to Ohio State it would make sense that they would be the favorite when you look at losses and quality wins. For most of us, though we will be watching from the comfort of our homes. I  always wondered how difficult it was to get tickets to such a huge game. Most of the tickets are allocated via the schools alumni, and then corporate sponsors.

I did not know that in order to get BCS tickets you needed be a donor who has contributed at least $2500 per year, plus be a season ticket holder for your school. Which works out to be a $600 per pair. Then you must purchase the BCS championship tickets at face value at approx. $550 per pair. Last I counted there are over 30 bowl games slated for the 2006-2007 college football season. It is great for my Alma Mater in that we will be in a bowl game this year. I wonder who gets excited about playing in the Poinsettia Bowl? Instead of the fans throwing oranges or roses on the field, will they be tossing poinsettias on to the field? College football has gotten so diluted that it is difficult to reward a team for having a great season. It used to be that only a few teams every year made it to a bowl. It benefited the school with the revenue, and the athletes with a stage with which to prove themselves. 

Now with all the corporate sponsors it is inevitable that only more games will be added before they are reduced. I wonder if I could get tickets to the PapaJohn bowl this year?
